I saw this AWESOME news today and I had to post! I can only imagine the amount of pride this family has with ALL four of their children getting accepted to Yale. I would be doing backflips or something lol. Please, everyone, spread this story! I want as much media coverage on this as possible. I know tuition is a main concern for the quadruplets and their parents, so let’s make sure their needs are being heard.

Congrats to the Crouch family! I’m sure they will have a wonderful Christmas!

Ok, flash back

Back in May Spike Lee did an interview with Ed Gordon on Our World with Black Enterprise. In the interview he complained about “coonery and buffoonery” and both of Tyler Perry’s shows “Meet the Browns” and “House of Payne,” comparing them to characters from minstrel shows. His actual comments below…

“We shouldn’t think that Tyler Perry is going to make the same film that I am going to make, or that John Singleton or my cousin Malcolm Lee [would make]. As African-Americans, we’re not one monolithic group, so there is room for all of that. But at the same time, for me, the imaging is troubling and it harkens back to ‘Amos n’ Andy.’”

“Each artist should be allowed to pursue their artistic endeavors, but I still think there is a lot of stuff out today that is coonery and buffoonery. I know it’s making a lot of money and breaking records, but we can do better. … I am a huge basketball fan, and when I watch the games on TNT, I see these two ads for these two shows (Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns” and “House of Payne”), and I am scratching my head. We got a black president, and we going back to Mantan Moreland and Sleep ‘n’ Eat?

Ok, now flash forward…

In a recent interview for 60 Minutes, which airs tonight at 7, Byron Pitts asked Perry his opinion on Lee’s accusations of him. Perry responded…

“You know, that pisses me off. It really does. Because it’s so insulting. It’s attitudes like that that make Hollywood think that these people do not exist and that’s why there’s no material speaking to them. I would love to read that to my fan base.”

I admire Spike Lee for his ground-breaking films and story-lines that push what is considered the norm…HOOOWWWEEEVVVVER for him to total disrespect Tyler in PUBLIC like he did was uncalled for. Spike is ol’ skool and that’s how he should of handled this situation…face to face the ol skool way. If he had any questions on the content that Tyler chooses to address in HIS…that’s right…HIS movies, I’m more than positive that Tyler was only one phone call away. I would think that Spike would try to respect another African American making it in such a non-African American dominated arena. Don’t get me wrong…its fine if he wants to critique him…but come on…comparing his work to Mantan and Moreland and Sleep ‘n’ Eat was pretty gosh darn low!

It’s even sadder to think that Tyler probably actually looks up to Spike. Tyler’s answer seems pretty strong in writing, but in the actual video he really looked…hurt. I’m not a fan of our people publicly humiliating each other…what’s the use…what are you even accomplishing? I think Spike should ‘do the right thing’ *giggle* and apologize to Tyler. Wow…I think she just flipped the script on everyone with this new single. Rihanna officially premiered the song today. Writing credits go to NeYo, but this is a very dark song…not surprising for Rihanna to sing. He also hyped up her album a few weeks ago saying she would “have some stuff say.” I actually love the song, but the gun shot at the end has me wondering….hmmm

Today, Forbes Magazine released their list of the top females in daytime television and the Queen of smiling with your eyes blew the rest of the list out of the water. Earning approximately 30 million last year, Tyra beat out the number 2 chick by over 12 million bucks.

According to the magazine, Banks’ wealth comes from the popular America’s Next Top Model series as well as her daytime talk show; frequent cameos; and notably behind the scenes work that includes acting as a producer on ABC’s True Beauty as well as the former CW series ‘Stylista’.

Some black players won’t play for Rush Limbaugh if he buys Rams

Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh has some Americans that love him and plenty that hate him. And the fact that he spouts such right-wing opinions doing his day job may hurt Limbaugh’s chances of getting some players if he manages to buy the St. Louis Rams, according to the New York Daily News.

New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka(notes) would love to play again under Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo, who was his defensive coordinator in New York, but Kiwanuka is saying that there is no way he would go play for St. Louis if Limbaugh takes over. New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott(notes) told the paper the same thing yesterday and it seems that it may be a general sentiment for a lot of black NFL players.

“All I know is from the last comment I heard, he said in (President) Obama’s America, white kids are getting beat up on the bus while black kids are chanting ‘right on,’” Kiwanuka told the paper. “He can do whatever he wants; it is a free country. But if it goes through, I can tell you where I am not going to play.”

At this point, Limbaugh and St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts, who is in on the bid with Limbaugh, aren’t thought to be the frontrunners for the Rams.

Anyone remember this ’stimulus package’ cartoon? Well I saw this on hiphopwired and had to repost. This is a very questionable move by the New York Post. Story below…

The New York Post, known for its bold headlines and outrageous stories is making headlines of its own, this time for firing one of the paper’s top editors. Sandra Guzman is an Emmy Award winning Journalist who edited the paper’s Black History Month section and the Harlem Week Section for years. Guzman is also the same woman that criticized the infamous racist “stimulus package” cartoon that appeared in its pages. Her removal from her position is raising eyebrows especially from people who claim the paper’s track record with minority employees is shaky.
Many people questioned the judgment of editors at the paper after the cartoon hit newsstands depicting the “unnamed” author of the economic stimulus bill as a rabid chimpanzee shot by two police men saying:

“They’ll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill.”

Guzman was the most high-profile Post employee to publicly speak out against the cartoon and had no qualms expressing her disdain. She wrote to her fellow colleagues saying:

“I neither commissioned or approved it. I saw it in the paper yesterday with the rest of the world. And, I have raised my objections to management.”

An employee at The New York Post that wished to remain anonymous told The Huffington Post that the former editor’s comments surely contributed to her firing saying:

“I think ever since then, she has been on their shit list and they were trying to look for a reason to get rid of her. The problem at The Post is a revenue problem. My whole thing is, she is not in charge of advertising. She is an associate editor. Whoever is in accounting or advertising should have been held accountable.”

It should also be noted that Guzman was the only woman of color on the paper’s management staff and according to Post employees there has been only one African-American editor at the paper in the last decade.

Tiger Woods is laughing all the way to the bank. He has officially become the first athlete to top $1 billion in career earnings. It was initially projected that he would reach BILLIONAIRE status in the year 2010, but as we can see he just smashed that theory! (lol)

Forbes writer Kurt Badenhausen breaks down all of Tiger’s earnings…

“Tiger’s earnings power is really unprecedented. It’s an extremely wealthy demographic that is going out and wants to spend money on equipment, on golf balls, on apparel. Woods is or has been in ad campaigns for cars, golf clubs, even razors. He is a walking, talking money-making machine. You might as well call him ‘Tiger, Inc.’ He makes more than $100 million a year. The next wealthiest athletes make in the neighborhood of $40, $45 million a year.”

Forbes also says Woods has racked up $125 million in prize money and some $890 million from endorsements. Nike is by far his biggest sponsor, paying Woods more than $30 million dollars a year.
